knife fight
so, here's another quick sketch
there are many problems, like the pose is sort of weird and doesn't have the intense direction i was going for, i obviously cut and pasted the arm in a different position and the legs are weird cause i didn't really consider the muscles...
the kind of critiques i'd like to recieve are more towards style. think sort of gorillaz and sort of koji morimoto and maybe a bit of the maxx. maybe you'll need to research those, but i'm going for a more punk illustration style.
feedback about how to weight the lines and make distort the anatomy would be great. also i didn't draw it here but he wears 3/4 shorts and flip flops, haha

Just gonna say, I don't like that blue tail quickly sketched in the background. But I suppose it's because it is a sketch and you haven't been able to do much with it.
ReplyDeleteThe only real thing I can say, is that it looks like you have two styles here.
The arm, belly, butt, and legs all like very life drawing-ish, where the face and hand looks very flash, angualar and 2D. Perhaps it si because it is just a sketch therefore not very much detail but it yeah thats what I see.
I went surfing the interent for a little while and I think I found a bunch a pictures that could help you out.

kk, so i agree with travis. the bottom half looks realistically proportions and drawn, and the top half looks punky. you need to keep up the hard angles. you dont need to take away the anatomy, you can keep it there, but you need random thick and thin lines. keep up the flat planes that you have in the sketch when you colour.
ReplyDeletei was looking at the artists you mentioned. flat is not a bad thing, you just need to make it everywhere, and thatll come out in colour. if you wanna make it weighted, put all the thick lines on the bottom of things. bottom of the thigh, arm, etc, anything thats touching floor, etc.
the tail itself doesnt bother me, but the curves are kinda awkward, i think you should make them more angled.not much, but like, instead of having really soft curves in each piece, make soft small points to show direction change. for the line quality of his tail, id go for noodles legs in this picture.

also on his leg here. there are curves, but the thick line quality makes points and weight and angles compared to other places.

youll see detailed stuff like her shoes less thick, but long, not detailed things, even tho they have subtle curves, have thicker more angled lines.
also, im confused as to where his back is. youve got this red line that makes him a box, i dont like it. go with that light line of black/dark green thats over the yellow. if you wanna make him wearing a tshirt or something coming out on that hard angle of the red, and go back to the black/yellow for his butt, im good with that. the anatomy reeeele doesnt make sense if u go with that red box, thing. i think it ruins it.
example: look at 2d/stu-pots tshirt here

also, put thicker lines at intersections. where clothes fold, where there would be shadows. itll add to the colouring.

also, i like it XD
