Coolio Stuff

Here's a process shot of a painting by mr--jack:

Something worth noting is that he's using a hard edged brush - being all painterly and brush strokey pretty much necessitates it. If you don't it'll look muddy and or gooey.

you can see a whole bunch of his process shots here:

  1. I love the label called "not by us"
    Tee hee hee.

Also I do think I am rather in love with this Mr. Jack man.
Blake you always find the coolest artist and tutorials. How do you do it?

Just one thing to say about the brush type yada yada...

I do agree that those shape brush edges really hit home digital paintings. Quite clearly in fact. But I don't think throwing out the soft brush is a good idea. Blending across broad surfaces can really help too. Like skin shouldn't look all choppy and hard, a soft brush and blended skin, where you really smooth out and build up those values would really make skin come alive. Not only skin but rounded metal surfaces or anything that changes plains in a very smooth subtle sort of motion.
So I think a smart mixture of the two, hard brush and soft brush would create the best result.
